Our office has utilized digital x-rays since 2001, being one of the first offices in Henderson County to utilize this technology. You are probably now very familiar with digital cameras which no longer use “film” that needs to be processed, usually at your local Walgreens or CVS pharmacy. Their speed, quality and ability to immediately see an “unacceptable” picture make them far superior to the cameras of the past.
Likewise, digital x-rays for dental procedures are superior to the film of the past. The major advantages of digital x-rays are the greatly reduced exposure time to the patients, as much as 80% less than before. In addition, these radiographs are “saved” in a computer, do not deteriorate over time and can be easily emailed to insurance companies and specialists offices and can be quickly retaken if unsatisfactory.
